Days of Wine and Roses 1962 B.EDWARDS

I-A FILM-MAKER, A WORK: BLAKE EDWARDS ( 7 ) Days of Wine and Roses 1962

Joe Clay () is a master in public relations, it can create and organize articles and dancing with beautiful girls for his clients.During one of his missions he meets a young woman Kirsten Arnesen Clay () that will charm and marry her. The man is very lively, likes to drink in abundance, like an alcoholic who does not know. His union and the birth of a baby girl will calm its excesses, but his professional disappointments will cause it to lapse in the back causing his wife. Both will try to get out of hell to drink, but relapse, it happens only after the umpteenth time to break free.

Alcohol addiction destructible this was rarely mentioned in the cinema when one considers the "Poison" by Billy Wilder with Jack Lemmon was the favorite actor seven films together. This one contains the same demonstrative force, the same drama and the refusal of the "happy ending" so dear to Hollywood. It contains scenes of violence, accusations and a hint of hope. The authors recall that this scourge is a kill joy, especially as a drug and drink it as if eating is a part of a societal culture and exploited inappropriately turned against its user.

The film is based on Jack Lemmon (1) primarily, the interpretation is spectacular as are the dramatic scenes where we see destroying a greenhouse to retrieve a hidden alcohol, one in which the delirium tremens control his body and his movements so dangerous. Lee Remick (2) does not play on her beauty and is also deeply affected the victim whose alcoholism brings out the unspoken frustrations and like her husband and boyfriend bar. The story was adapted signed on television by John Frankenheimer in 1958 who was willing to turn to the big screen version, but Jack Lemmon initiator of the project he chose Blake Edwards, with whom he will run 3 times and even in films scripted by the latter (3). The title is taken from a short poem by the English poet Ernest Dowson (1867-1900) entitled "Vitae Summa Brevis" (2).

The film remains one of the best in Blake Edwards was going to surprise us again and again, after two black film with Lee Remick he attacked the great adventure of the Pink Panther

(1) Nearly 100 films including some in the history of film: Some Like It Hot (1959) - Irma la Douce (1963) - The China Syndrome (1979)

(2) Beautiful actress who played for Kazan - Preminger-J.Ivory Tony Richardson, she died at age 55

(3) "The Notorious Landlady" by Richard Quine

(4) They are not long, the days of wine and roses: Out of a misty dream Our path-emerge for a while, then closes Within a dream-.--- Life is short "-
